Suzhou Library received Presidential Citation for Innovative International Library Project from Jim Neal, chairman of American Library Association at its annual meeting on June 26.
The “little migratory birds project” of Suzhou Library, providing service for children from migrant workers’ families in Suzhou, was one of the four projects worldwide to receive the award from the American Library Association.
The Tongjing Branch of Suzhou Library started the “little migratory birds project” in May 2010. So far about 6,000 children have joined more than 280 activities in the branch. The project helps children from migrant workers’ families to form the habit of reading and get to know the culture of Suzhou through colorful activities held regularly in summer and winter vacations.
The American Library Association is one of the largest library associations in the world.
